Study Spaces & Library Etiquette

Please note that due to physical distancing measures there is reduced capacity available.

The library offers individual, group, and quiet study spaces. Remember, libraries are shared spaces - respect and be considerate of others to create an environment that works for everyone.

  Quiet

The quiet study area includes study carrels, each of which has conventional and USB plug-ins so you can charge your devices while you study. This area is for individual study only and talking is not allowed.

  Groups

The group study area includes casual seating, modular tables, and large tables. Individuals and small groups are welcome to use this area. Quiet discussion is allowed.

Group study rooms are also available for students to book for one- or two-hour sessions.

Rooms are for current Assiniboine students only, September through June. Alumni and community members may use other Library space, the cafeteria, or the workspace in the East hallway outside room 434.

  Computer

A limited number of computer workstations are available. These are reserved for academic skills training, research, and APA citing purposes only.

Library Etiquette

Seating

  • Use one seat only - don't use seats for your belongings - and allow room at tables for other students.
  • If leaving the library for more than 10 minutes, take your belongings with you. This allows others to use the space.

Conversation

  • Quiet study areas are silent zones, this means no talking is allowed. If you need to talk with a classmate, please move to the group area.
  • Group study areas are quiet discussion zones. Remember, others are working in the library, too, so make sure noise level is low to moderate.

Phones

  • Phones must be set to silent - turn all ringers or sound notifications off.
  • Phone calls must be taken outside of the library. If you're talking on the phone in the library, you may be asked to leave for the duration of the call.

Food

  • Food is not allowed in the library at this time.
  • Users may bring water bottles.

Unattended Belongings

  • Don't leave your personal belongings unattended.
  • The library is not responsible for loss, theft, or damage of personal property.
  • Personal belongings may not be used to hold study carrels, tables, or computers.
  • The library reserves the right to move unattended belongings to the lost and found, located at the Main Desk.
