Accessing Materials

Assiniboine students, faculty, and staff can have items pulled and ready for checkout at the Main Desk.

  • Request items through our Library Materials Request form. Items can be picked up in-person or shipped directly to you. Select the preferred method when filling out the form.

You can request scanned articles and book chapters through the request form by indicating so in the comments section. If you use a screen reader, please include that in the comments so we can send you a screen reader-compatible scan.

Software & Technology

For accessibility software and technology help, contact the Learning Curve

Read & Write Gold

Read & Write Gold is an example of both a text-to-speech and a speech-to-text tool. This software will read text out loud to the user and allows the user to speak into a microphone and create a document in a word processing program or email.

Windows Text Magnifier & Reader

Windows Text Magnifier/Reader helps users with low vision by magnifying a computer's screen display. The Narrator feature narrates users’ actions such as file menu selections and keyboard inputs, in addition to reading webpages and documents. Available on all college workstations. For information on how to use this application, view the How to use Magnifier reading instructions from Microsoft Support.

Research Help

Research help is available in-person, by phone, online, or via email. Some support is also offered through video conference using Zoom. Fill out our Help form to request support.

Study Spaces

The library offers low-distraction study space in its quiet study area which includes study carrels and a small number of computers. Each carrel has conventional and USB plug-ins so you can charge your devices while you study. This area is for individual study only and talking is not allowed.

Students, faculty, and staff can borrow noise cancelling headphones or noise dampening earmuffs to help block out distractions. These are available for check out at the Main Desk. If lost or damaged, replacement charges will apply. See the Borrowing Materials page for more information.
